Wealdstone's under-21 side began their National League Cup campaign with a 3-1 defeat to Wolverhampton Wanderers' development squad on Monday. Despite taking the lead early in the second half, the young Stones were undone by three goals in the final 25 minutes at Grosvenor Vale.
Callum Lee, introduced as a first-half substitute, gave Wealdstone the perfect start after the break. He capitalised on a loose ball inside the penalty area just a minute into the second period, slotting home from close range to put the hosts ahead.
The lead lasted less than 20 minutes. Wolves levelled the scores in the 65th minute through a superb free-kick from Minkyu Ji, who curled his effort into the top corner. The visitors then completed the turnaround seven minutes later when Oladapo Anunlopo drove down the left wing and fired a low shot into the bottom corner.
Wealdstone pushed for an equaliser but were caught out again with ten minutes remaining. Fifteen-year-old Isaiah Gonzales-Osbourne, making his under-21 debut, sealed the win for Wolves with a fine curled finish into the far corner.
The first half had been a tight affair with chances at both ends. Wealdstone's Jayden Harris forced a good save from Wolves goalkeeper Josh Gracey, while the visitors saw efforts from Tom Edozie and Emilio Ballard-Matthews go wide.
