Robbie Savage will not be in the dugout when Forest Green Rovers host Wealdstone on Tuesday night. The manager has been given permission to speak to another club, understood to be League One side Peterborough United.
Goalkeeper coach Jonathan Gould confirmed the news at a press conference. "Robbie won’t be with us," Gould said. He will oversee the match alongside coaches Yan Klukowski and Josh Bowen at The New Lawn.
Savage took over at Forest Green in July 2025 and has been in charge for just over a year. The club finished seventh last season and lost in the play-off quarter-finals. His potential departure comes with his current side 12th in the National League and Wealdstone sitting 17th with 11 points from 10 games.
Squad challenges for Gould
Gould, who joined the club in the summer, must prepare a depleted squad. Midfielder Jayden Clarke is unavailable and defender Freddie Sass is suspended after being sent off in Saturday's 3-3 draw with Sutton United. Midfielder Oli Ewing came off the bench to score in that match but suffered a bad bruise and is a doubt. Gould indicated around 18 or 19 players are currently available.
"There’ll be disappointed ones at this moment in time, but we’ve just got to get on with what we’re doing as a group of people," Gould said. The coach brings extensive experience, having won three Scottish league titles as a player with Celtic and held coaching roles at Preston North End, Stoke City, and with the New Zealand national team.
Gould added that the squad must remain professional.
Wealdstone's form
Wealdstone travel to Gloucestershire off the back of a 4-0 thrashing of Gateshead. That result made it three wins from their last five matches, a run of form detailed on our stats page. Ollie Olomola and Luke Norris were among the scorers in that comprehensive victory.
Wealdstone manager Matt Taylor praised his team's recent resilience.
Peterborough United, the club Savage is in talks with, are 23rd in League One with one win from eight games. They sacked manager Luke Williams earlier this month. Forest Green's next match after facing Wealdstone is a trip to Barnet. The club's current league position and recent results can be tracked in the standings.
Forest Green chairman Dale Vince acknowledged the situation. Vince said.
