A. Kaunda scored the only goal as Wealdstone beat Nottingham Forest U21 1-0 in the National League Cup group stage on Tuesday. The win makes it two victories in a row for the Stones, who are 19th in the National League with 12 points from 13 games, a record of three wins, three draws and seven losses. They have scored 17 goals and conceded 24 this season, giving them a goal difference of minus seven.
Kaunda found the net in the 67th minute, finishing an assist from J. Newton. The goal proved decisive in a match where both managers made multiple changes after the interval. Wealdstone introduced Z. Campbell, M. Oni and J. Searle at half-time, while Nottingham Forest U21 sent on D. Frank.
Further substitutions followed as the game progressed, with S. Atem and Kaunda himself entering the fray for Wealdstone just after the hour mark. The visitors also made a triple change around that time, bringing on R. Robinson, S. Samuels and later K. Bradshaw and B. Balagizi in an attempt to find an equaliser.
Wealdstone's defence held firm to secure the clean sheet. The result follows a 3-0 league win over Worthing last Friday and a 0-6 defeat to Yeovil Town on Saturday 10 October. They also recorded a 4-0 victory over Gateshead on Saturday 26 September.
Attention now turns back to the league, where Wealdstone face a trip to 12th-placed Aldershot Town this Saturday 24 October. The full fixtures list shows the match at the EBB Stadium at Recreation Ground kicks off at 3pm local time. Wealdstone will be looking to carry their cup momentum into a league campaign where they currently sit 23 points behind leaders Boreham Wood.
