Wealdstone have signed two goalkeepers to strengthen their squad ahead of a busy period. The club announced the arrival of Sam Long on a 28-day loan from Salford City and Jamie Searle on a non-contract agreement.
Sam Long is a 23-year-old who has yet to make a senior appearance for his parent club. He has previously gained experience with Lincoln City and Bromley. Jamie Searle, 25, joins The Ammies having played for clubs including Forest Green Rovers, Eastbourne Borough and Barnsley.
The moves come as Wealdstone look to build on a recent upturn in form. They currently sit 19th in the National League with 12 points from 13 games, a record of three wins and three draws against seven defeats. Their last outing was a convincing 3-0 home win over Worthing on Saturday 17 October, a result that followed a difficult 6-0 defeat to Yeovil Town on Saturday 10 October. The team's recent form shows two wins, one draw and two losses from their last five matches, a sequence that also includes a 2-1 loss at Barrow, a 1-1 draw at Forest Green, and a 4-0 win over Gateshead. Overall this season, the side has scored 17 goals but conceded 24, leaving them with a goal difference of minus seven and some 23 points behind the league leaders.
The club's management has moved quickly to address the goalkeeping department, ensuring options are in place for the challenges ahead. Searle's non-contract status offers flexibility, while Long's loan provides a short-term solution with experience from the Football League.
Wealdstone's next match is away to Aldershot Town on Saturday, 24 October.
The club confirmed the signings on October 19. Manager Stuart Maynard said the moves were necessary to provide competition. "We needed to strengthen our options in that area," Maynard stated. The signings follow a 3-0 win over Worthing on October 17, a result that improved a recent form of two wins, one draw and two losses from their last five matches.
