Wealdstone's most famous fan, Gordon Hill, also known as the Wealdstone Raider, claims he was set up and assaulted by rival fans during an away match against Whitehawk. The incident occurred at the end of the National League South fixture on Saturday. Hill, 50, revealed that he was temporarily held by police following the drama. He believes he was purposefully targeted during a special guest appearance on the south coast. Hill said he was watching the end of the first-half from a quiet spot at Whitehawk's Enclosed Ground when he was assaulted twice by the same person. Two stewards saw the incident and evicted the attacker. After that, Hill stayed with the stewards. Tempers continued to flare between supporters after the match, and Hill was caught on camera being held back from getting involved. He claims he was again assaulted during that exchange, this time being hit on the back of the head before police intervened. Hill said he was pushed away and as he was pushing his friend away, someone from the Whitehawk fans came and punched him in the back of the head and then ran back into the crowd. He admitted that it was more pride that was hurt, and he was set up. The police put him in handcuffs as they cleared up the violence, but the stewards told them that Hill had done nothing wrong, so they released him and put him on the away supporters' travel coach for his own safety. Hill claims that he will not be put off going and following Wealdstone away from home in the future following the incident. The Raider first shot to fame 18 months ago when an old video of him at a previous Whitehawk vs Wealdstone fixture went viral online. Since then, he has turned into one of non-league football's most recognizable fans. Hill still works through the week as a laborer. He said he didn't resist arrest but told the police to speak to the stewards because he had done nothing wrong. The stewards came up and explained it to them, and straight away, they let him go. Hill's incident has sparked concern among Wealdstone fans, and the club is likely to take measures to ensure their fans' safety during away matches.
