Wealdstone snatched a dramatic late equaliser to deny AFC Fylde a winning start to their National League campaign on Saturday. Olufela Olomola netted in the 89th minute to complete a 2-2 draw at Mill Farm after a thrilling encounter.
The Coasters took the lead in the 67th minute when Adam Lewis fired a 30-yard strike off the post and past Zac Jones in the Wealdstone goal. Jack Morris restored Fylde’s advantage five minutes later, rounding Baptiste to slot home after a swift counterattack.
Wealdstone responded through Luke Norris, who headed home a cross from close range with 11 minutes remaining to make it 1-1. The Stones continued to press and were rewarded when Olomola reacted fastest to a loose ball in the box to tap in the equaliser with just 60 seconds left on the clock.
Earlier, Baptiste denied Chris Merrie and Adam Lewis with smart stops, while Danny Mayor saw a solo effort blocked and Danny Ormerod had a close-range effort cleared off the line. Zac Jones also made an early save to keep Fylde in the game.
The result leaves both teams with a point each as they begin their National League fixtures. Wealdstone will look to build on this resilience when they host their next home game, details of which can be found on our fixtures page.
