Wealdstone were handed a heavy 6-0 defeat by Yeovil Town at Grosvenor Vale on Saturday. The result leaves the Stones 19th in the National League table on 12 points after 13 games, with a goal difference of minus seven.

Yeovil's James Daly opened the scoring in the 29th minute, but the game turned decisively just before half-time. Wealdstone goalkeeper Dante Baptiste was sent off for bringing down Slavi Spasov outside his penalty area, leaving his side to play the entire second half with ten men.

Yeovil's second-half surge

Yeovil Town capitalised on their numerical advantage with a ruthless five-goal blitz after the break. Johl Powell scored twice and Brett McGavin completed a hat-trick, with his three goals coming in a devastating 20-minute spell. McGavin's performance drew high praise from Yeovil manager Billy Rowley.

"Brett’s football ability, left and right foot, his ball striking is probably up close one of the best I’ve ever seen," Rowley said.

The visitors also saw a penalty saved, denying Powell a hat-trick, and their sixth goal came after Owen Dean pressured the Wealdstone defence into an error. It was Yeovil's second consecutive 6-0 league victory, having scored 12 goals in their last two matches.

For Wealdstone, the defeat is a second heavy loss in a row following a 2-1 reverse at Barrow, contributing to a recent run of one win in five league games. The club must now regroup ahead of their next fixture, an away trip to face 12th-placed Aldershot Town on 24 October.

He warned against complacency, however. "We have been on a brilliant run but we need to stay on it and stay humble," McGavin said. The captain added that the club's environment was brilliant. The result leaves Wealdstone 19th in the National League, with 12 points from 13 games.
